The increasing demand for rapid translation of large volumes of data has led to the widespread use of machine translation tools, with Google Translate being one of the most popular. Although numerous studies have examined Google Translate, research on the Russian-Turkish translation pair remains limited. This study aims to conduct an error analysis of Google Translate's performance in translating between Russian and Turkish, evaluating the accuracy and quality of these machine translations. The primary material for this research comprises news texts used by the author in teaching the basics of professional translation for Russian-Turkish language pairs.
The analysis focuses on identifying and categorizing various types of errors, such as lexical, syntactic, semantic, and stylistic discrepancies. The results of this study are intended to be utilized in training Russian-Turkish translators, emphasizing the practical use of machine translation services rather than discouraging their use or relying on outdated translation methods. The findings highlight significant challenges faced by Google Translate in handling the unique linguistic and cultural nuances of Russian and Turkish, including grammatical structures, idiomatic expressions, and contextual meanings.
The discussion section interprets these results, offering insights into the strengths and limitations of Google Translate for these language pairs. This study contributes to the broader understanding of machine translation performance and provides suggestions for enhancing the effectiveness of Google Translate for Russian and Turkish translations.
